As I sit here mid-January reflecting on the past year, I realize quite a bit has changed for my little family. It really is incredible what can happen in a year. Before I begin with my goals for this new year, let me show you just how well (ha) I did for 2017.
My 17 intentions for 2017:
ONE – Be present in the moment and worry less about the future.
I can honestly say that I’ve made some progress with this first intention. There were times I intentionally left my phone in the other room while spending time with friends and family. In fact, this goal actually made me realize how much our phones/tablets/computers can take away from precious moments. I think technology is a wonderful thing, but it’s such a great feeling to ‘unplug’.
TWO – Join a local networking group.
Unfortunately, I failed this one. 2017 held a lot of events, but joining a networking group was not one of them for me.
THREE – Attend a blog conference.
The first quarter of 2017, I attended The Blog Society workshop in D.C. It was such a great experience. See a few details from the trip here.
FOUR – Be BOLD in all aspects of life.
I think I did an okay job of being bold in 2017. I can remember certain instances where I didn’t shy away, but I’d like to think in 2018 I could do a better job.
FIVE – Drink only one cup of coffee a day.
I’m proud to say I have actually cut my coffee intake to only one cup a day. My new afternoon addiction is lime LaCroix. Will and I might go through a couple of cases a week 🙂
SIX – Focus my business on how I treat my own style and closet: quality over quantity.
While helping clients with their closet, I do remember several conversations about quality over quantity. I did not completely change my business structure, but I did emphasize the importance more.
SEVEN – Travel to California with Will.
YES! This was definitely the highlight of 2017. I cannot say enough great things about our trip to the Bay area and Wine Country. See some of our trip details here and here.
EIGHT – Live within our means.
Another yes — whew! Meeting some financial goals while paying off credit cards was one of the best feelings coming out of 2017. I’d love to live the picture perfect pinterest life, but that’s not the reality I live. Staying within our means is a far better feeling than ‘keeping up with the Kardashians’.
NINE – Lift up and encourage others – daily!
I love that I had this as a daily goal the past year. Everyone needs encouragement, no matter what you’re facing in life. Of course, I’m human and I did not do this everyday in 2017. I’d like to continue this into the new year though.
TEN – Work with five cause-related brands.
I’m sad to say that I did not check this one off. I worked with some awesome brands in 2017, but none were specifically cause-related.
ELEVEN – Create a schedule for my blogs. Example: Post every Mon, Wed, Fri, or every Tues, Thurs.
Again, I failed here. Working full-time took away from the time I used to have for blogging. I tried to post consistently, but it really came down to posting when I had time.
TWELVE – Each month find a new way to give to those in need. This can be service based or monetary donations.
I did not work towards this goal as well I could have, but like number 9, I’m hoping to continue for 2018. There is much need in our community and I’d love to help in all the ways that I can.
THIRTEEN – Paint the 2 end tables and hutch in our living room.
The two end tables haven’t budged haha 🙂 I’m hoping once we move out of our townhome (fingers crossed for this year!) I will be inspired by a new space.
FOURTEEN – Start running with Mindi again.
Meh. I can’t check this one off either. It was easier in the warmer months to attempt this, but as soon as the colder months hit I was doomed.
FIFTEEN – Catch up with an old friend.
This one was a lot of fun and actually happened unintentionally. It’s funny how things work out like that.
SIXTEEN – Plan a staycation for Will and I.
Check! Will joined me during my stay at the 21c Museum Hotel in Durham.
SEVENTEEN – By the 5th of every month, evaluate how I’m doing on each item above.
I did this I think one or two months and then totally forgot.
Now, moving on to a new year…
I mentioned a few things above that I’d like to carry into 2018, but I want to keep things a little more simple this year. As a girl that loves to make lists, I’m challenging myself to make my goals less list-like and more something I can stick to — and remember!
This year, I’d like to focus on more things of meaning and less of the meaningless. I want to keep in mind the importance of unplugging like I mentioned above, spending time with those I love, and embracing the moments to meet new friends.
My plan is to use this focus for this space as well. Lately, I do not have as much time to plan and write posts as often as I would like. With that being said, when I do share on Danielle Davis Style I want the words and images to always reflect something of meaning. In order to begin this goal, please help me by sharing what YOU what to see more of on DDS. Do you like seeing more lifestyle and travel posts? Or are you only interested in styling and organizing? Leave me a comment below or shoot me an email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
As always, a HUGE thank you to you all for continuing to read what I have to say and following along. None of this could be possible without you!
Cheers to 2018!
