A Surprise Closet Edit

A Surprise Closet Edit

A couple of weeks ago I began working with a client on a closet edit. Together we tackled the first step of any organizing project: PURGE! We had such a great time sorting through her clothes, shoes, handbags, and other miscellaneous closet items. You’re probably thinking, “yeah right, I highly doubt cleaning out a closet is fun” but, it seriously was! We laughed so hard together through the entire process. I loved hearing her stories about items (because every lady has a story about her outfits) and getting to know her adorably sassy personality.
Once we finished up the day of organizing, we talked over the next steps. Her priority was to create a closet that felt inviting, almost like a boutique dressing room. I took a few notes and measurements regarding her closet needs, then I was off to shop! As I left, the plan was made to contact her for an install once I finalized my shopping.
Little did she know that her husband was in on this closet setup. Also, it just so happened that I finished collecting exactly what was needed for her ideal closet a few days before Valentine’s Day. Her husband and I began to collaborate after the thought, “hmm, what if we surprise her for Valentine’s Day with her final closet look?” So we took a risk and rolled with the idea. We scheduled a time for me to come in for the install when they would both be out of the house. That Friday evening when she arrived home from work, her new closet was awaiting her. I wish I were there to see her reaction in person, but receiving her husband’s email describing  how it all played out was even better:

Words cannot express how awesome everything turned out.  Teresa is not very emotional.  She’s the strong person for those of us challenged to have her type of strength.  For me it was an unforgettable moment that was priceless when she opened the door to see her new closet.  It got more dramatic when she looked around the door and saw her hanging mirror.  She started crying with such sheer joy.  I hate to see her cry for any reason.  This time I held her and let the tears flow.

Whew! Will someone hand ME a box of tissues? I can’t tell you how much it meant to hear these words. Working with wonderful clients like this while pursuing what I love to do is something I am beyond grateful for.
Below, I’ve shared with you the before & after photos of Theresa’s closet. I hope you all enjoy this latest Danielle Davis Style project!
